I want to give a huge thanks to my colleague 八木橋 Pachi 昌也 (@dubbedpachi) for transcribing and translating my TED talk “Privacy by Design: Humanizing Analytics”. You can check out his Japanese translation at TED@IBMトーク: IBMの企業内ソーシャル分析とプライバシー. Now my Japanese friends and colleagues have no excuse for not listening to me pontificate :-)
And I know I do tend to get on my soapbox a bit when it comes to analytics of people data, all I can say is that my fervor comes from a good place. Its not about preventing analytics from happening but suggesting that we need to create an environment where we can do increasingly more analysis but in a way that is safe and respectful to the individuals we are analyzing. As technologists it will make our lives harder in the short-term, but the longer-term benefits could be substantial.
